The goal of this project is to design an AI-powered grocery shopping app that improves the overall shopping experience by making it faster, more organized, and budget-friendly. The app automatically categorizes items, tracks spending in real time, and provides detailed product information to support smarter and healthier decisions.
This solution is targeted at busy individuals, health-conscious shoppers, and families managing multiple needs. Unlike existing apps like AnyList or Bring!—which rely on manual list-making and lack intelligent features—this app introduces real-time budget tracking and smart categorization to reduce user effort and prevent overspending.
By addressing the limitations of current solutions and focusing on automation and clarity, the app aims to simplify the grocery shopping journey from start to finish.
Challenges & Approach
Defining the Right Features
Striking a balance between AI automation and user control was tricky. I had to decide which features to automate (like item categorization and budget tracking) without overwhelming users or making the app feel too rigid.
Understanding User Behavior
Users shop differently—some stick to lists, while others make spontaneous decisions. Designing for both behaviors required deeper user research and testing different flows
Complex Budget Tracking Logic
Implementing real-time cost tracking meant accounting for dynamic pricing, store-specific offers, and varying item weights or quantities, which added complexity to the user journey.
The Outcome
The final solution turned grocery shopping from a stressful task into a seamless and intelligent experience. By prioritizing efficiency, the app helped users save time, reduce effort, and make smarter decisions.
